Elementary School Day Camp 2008 Open to East Haddam residents entering grades 1-5 The following is a list of pertinent information for you to read carefully and discuss with your children. This should cover the most frequently asked questions. Please keep this information for the duration of camp-it contains all of the information that you will need throughout the summer! * Children are to be dropped off no earlier than 8:30am. Pick-up is 3:00pm. * All children must be signed in and out by a parent or guardian each day. * Children are expected to act appropriately. It is up to the discretion of the director to dismiss a child for unacceptable behavior. If this occurs, parents will be notified immediately. * The children will be grouped according to grades, and activities will occur on a rotating basis. Children will need to stay with their counselors to provide supervision. Activities will change every 45 minutes. There will also be some free - time on a daily basis. Children are encouraged to bring a book or video (rated G or PG) to use during this free time. Children may bring a towel on hot days-we will be going in the sprinkler!! We have several board games, as well. * We will be going on 6 trips this summer. The cost of this trip is included in your registration fee. We will have a sign up sheet at the front desk for you to sign your child up for the field trips, or you can sign up on the registration form. You must sign your child up by the preceding Thursday. We need to reserve enough buses and tickets for the children who will be attending. CHILDREN MUST WEAR THEIR CAMP SHIRTS ON THESE TRIPS. Please note that on the day of field trips there will be no camp if your child chooses not to participate in the field trip. * Children must bring lunches in paper bags or coolers. Lunch -time will be from 11:30 - 12:00. There are no refrigerators or coolers available. * Each Friday we will be at the Town Beach. There will be four lifeguards plus counselors on duty. If the weather is questionable please call the Rec. office at 873-5058 after 7 a.m. to hear a message. Please note that there is no After Care on Fridays. If the weather is too severe to hold camp at the beach, camp will be held at the Elementary School. Please remember to send sunscreen and a towel with your child. There will be ice cream and candy available to purchase on Fridays. You may send in spending money with your child, if you’d like. * Lifeguards will be testing each child who attends camp on Fridays to determine their swimming ability. Children will be identified by a colored bracelet, which will clearly indicate their ability to the lifeguard. This is for the safety of all children in our care. * If you choose to register your child for swimming lessons, you will still need to sign your child in with their counselor. The swimming instructor will sign your child out for the duration of the lesson. Lessons will take place each Friday morning (total of 6 lessons), the cost will be $25 per student. Parents will need to complete a swimming lesson registration form to enroll their child in lessons. If camp is cancelled at the beach due to inclement weather, we will make every attempt to make up the missed swimming lesson. * The maximum limit of children per week is 150 children in grades 1-5. This is to insure proper camper/counselor ratios. You may sign- up for all 6 weeks or only the weeks you know your child will attend. Once the limit has been reached, that week will be closed. We will hold your registration on a waiting list, should a space become available, you will be notified. If you mail-in your form you will only be notified if registration is full.
